About the Sessions
The Institute for Youth Justice program is a 5-month leadership training opportunity that runs January-May. It consists of the following:
AN OPENING RETREAT
We kick off this experience with students and parents! Parents are invited to learn more about what their student will be experiencing and ask any questions that they may have.

MONTHLY SESSIONS
Each session takes place one Tuesday a month, 8:30am-12:30pm, at various locations across Spartanburg County. For example, students will visit the Spartanburg County Courthouse, Spartanburg County Detention Center, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, and City Police Department. New this year, is a fifth session that will be held at the Spartanburg Academic Movement. This session is focused on helping students take what they’ve learned and put it to action.
GRADUATION
A graduation ceremony is held in May at The Piedmont Club. This provides an opportunity to celebrate these students. Parents, partners, and community members are invited to attend.
INTERNSHIPS
As part of this work, our focus is to build more talent within the Justice System by creating a career pipeline through exposure to internship opportunities. We partner with area employers to provide internship opportunities to the students after they have graduated.
